The Cholsey Horticultural Society (formerly the Cholsey and Moulsford Allotment and Cottage Gardeners Association) was founded in 1942 and a trading store and Flower Show was established in 1943.
Until 1996 the store was located in a disused stable block in Station Road. Since then it has been on the allotments nearby. From a modest start to encourage the wartime “Dig for Victory” campaign, the Store has steadily grown to its present wide range of garden supplies.
In its heyday the Annual Show was extensive, with marquees for showing produce, rabbits, poultry and cage birds. There was a horse gymkhana and the day ended with fireworks and a dance in the marquee. Although organised on a smaller scale in more recent times, the Annual Show remains popular, in its newer location on Cholsey's Whitehead Meadow. In 2018, we organised our 75th Annual Show.
